The first in a collection dedicated to the great photographers of our times, Willy RONIS – Héliogravures is presented as a handsome portfolio containing twelve heliogravures (10 for those copies following the tirage de tête.) Each heliogravure is an exquisite reproduction of a photograph taken by Willy RONIS.

The heliogravures have been individually printed from copper plates on both Japanese Tosa Washi and Hanemühle paper, using a hand-turned press. The technique resembles that used for etchings and aquatints. (To learn more about the technique of traditional heliogravure, click here.)

The rigid portfolio (41 x 55 cm, or 16
3/16 x 21 5/8 inches) also contains commentaries written by the photographer himself, with their English translation. Describing the conditions under which each photo was taken, Willy RONIS speaks to us of his art and craft with elegance and simplicity. These pages have been printed on Hanemühle paper, using traditional methods.
